Advanced Creative Draping shows how to drape fashion-forward, conceptual designs that use elements of couture construction to elevate the work to the highest level of fashion.

Essentially a series of master classes for the serious fashion student, various creative methods are taught, including experimental draping with final-design fabrics, draping on a half-scale form,  and draping with use of embellishment or surface designs.   The last chapters demonstrate how to create theatrical costumes and the highest quality of heirloom garments.

The goal is to strengthen a personal design aesthetic, guiding the designer in developing an original, signature style by learning to interpret inspiration and research into their draping, and to recognize the principles of “Good Design”.

Current professional studio practices are included, as well as information on “Slow Fashion” ethics, which highlight the importance  of  creating today’s “modern heirloom garments”.

Specially commissioned step-by-step photography, line drawings and accompanying videos, bring to life the art of draping.  The book includes tips from inspiring contemporary designers and takes the reader behind the scenes of famous ateliers, such as Chanel’s Maisons Lesage and Lemarie.

K. Kiisel’s varied experience in both fashion and costume give her a unique vantage point to offer this advanced, comprehensive reference book for both students and professional designers.
